Sophie works with major collectors, curating spaces and building collections. She has a comprehensive knowledge of New Zealand art history with specialist expertise in modern and contemporary practice. She is a specialist in working on new builds and conceiving how artworks operate within architectural environments.

The daughter of auction house founder and art world trailblazer, Peter Webb, Sophie was mentored by Webb. She held the position of director of art at Webb’s auction house for 16 years where, in addition to leading the auction market, she provided fine art consultation services to private and corporate clients, assisting with the formation of some of this country’s most significant art col- lections.

Her market-based experience is the foundation of a sophisticated understanding of values for New Zealand art from important early historical and topographical works to modernism, contemporary practice and contemporary works by Maori and Pacifica artists.

Sophie is a fine art valuation specialist, the founder and director of specialist art valuation business, Art Valuations NZ Ltd and the appointed valuer to Auckland Art Gallery, Toi o Tamaki.
