a Trans-Tasman curatorial service, connecting the public with quality contemporary art.

Led by Emily Cormack and Sophie Coupland, we collaborate with architects, designers, development companies and public organisations to develop creative encounters within the built environment. We work closely with artists to guide the creation of quality site-responsive commissions. Our work aims to celebrate and enhance a site through embedding conceptual depth, creative rigour, spatial intelligence and beauty.

We have recently completed a collection of 42 specially commissioned artworks for Cordis, Auckland and are now working on a collection of site responsive commissions for one of Auckland’s most important new developments.

CORDIS, AUCKLAND

one of most extensive corporate collections of contemporary art ever commissioned in New Zealand.

The Cordis, Auckland collection was designed to reflect Auckland’s unique geography, the volcanic maunga, wide vistas and sparkling harbours of Tamaki Makaurau, as well as responding to Jasmax’s new tower and the Space Studio’s interiors. Upholding the curatorial structure of this collection was a sincere and embedded process of consultation with Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei. Expanding on ideas developed with Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei and Bernard Makoare (Ngāti Whātua ki Kaipara), each work responds to a set of conceptual ideas. These include the manawa line (or heart line), te whai ao (the light before dawn) and kaitiakitanga (guardianship), which ensures a cohesive curatorial journey throughout. The collection comprises works by: Amanda Gruenwald, Jae Hoon Lee, Nikau Hindin, Lonnie Hutchinson, Sanné Mestrom, Seung Yul Oh, Joe Sheehan, Raukura Turei, Beronia Scott and Carla Ruka for Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei.
